The library and the librarians

Q: What is the library for?
A: The library is one of the school’s main hub. The library’s role is to encourage reading, and to help you with your researchs. It is also a space where you can work or relax.

Q: How can the librarians help me?
A: Librarians are specialists of information. Anything that can be coded in a way or another (text, sound, images etc.) is information. Whether you are looking for something to read out of interested, for your own pleasure (a fiction book or a comic book) or something that you need for work (a science book, an academic article or statistical data), it is information just the same.

The roles of the librarians are:
1. to make information available, by:
a/ building and maintaining a library collection (physical and digital) that is as close as possible of the library users desires and needs.
b/ providing access to any document that is not already part of these collections, on request.
2. to help users with their researchs, and to help them developping the skills that will eventually allow them to become independent researchers. This includes learning how to discover and how to evaluate information.
3. to help users using information with honesty. This implies learning what referencing is, how it is done, and how it relates to plagiarism.

Q: Who works in the library?
A: Mr. Frederic. Duchêne, Mrs Camille Mussi and Mrs. Sana Qazi. We also have volunteer students.

Q: When are the librarians available?
A: There is always at least one librarian or assistant librarian avalaible in the library. Our priority will always go to students, and we are by default always available to answer your questions.

You may also contact us at:        library. sec . cha    @    ecolint . ch

Q: When is the library open?
A: Monday – Friday: 7:30 – 16:45 (16:00 on Friday).

General guidelines

Q: Can I have food, drinks, or sweets in the library?
A: No. But water bottles are tolerated.

Q: Am I allowed to make a phone call inside the library?
A: Mobile phones should not bee seen on the campus. We’ll confiscate them for the day if necessary.

Q: Should I speak in a low voice in the library?
A: No. The library is not a silent library. Nevertheless, you are expected to adjust you level of noise to the atmosphere of the place, depending on how many students are present. The library is naturally a noisy place during break time when it is not unusual to have 200 students at the same time, but it has to be more quiet during lesson time. Priority will always be given to students who have work to do. You are therefore expected to help maintaining a quiet atmosphere if necessary.

Q: What do I do if I wish to work with a group of friends?
A: You can freely use one of the small seminar rooms; if the door is locked, then the room is probably booked for a class or an exam and it cannot be used.

Q: The book or article I need is not in the catalogue, what can I do?
